Sign Company Website Redesign: Protect SEO, Project Proof and Quote Paths
Redesign a sign-company website without losing valuable URLs, local search signals, project photos or quote enquiries. Use this migration checklist.
Overview
Sign-company websites accumulate history. An established shop may have old product pages, city pages, gallery URLs and articles that still receive search traffic or external links.
Treat the redesign as a migration rather than a visual reset.
1. Inventory current URLs
Record the homepage, service/category pages, portfolio/project pages, location/service-area pages, about/team, quote/contact pages, useful articles and old campaign pages that still have links.
Do not decide a page is worthless only because it looks dated.
2. Assign a destination to each important page
Choose one outcome:
Avoid redirecting every removed page to the homepage.
- keep and improve;
- consolidate into a stronger page;
- move to a new URL and redirect;
- retire because no meaningful equivalent exists.
3. Consolidate thin category sprawl
Before recreating a page for every product, ask whether it has meaningful demand, unique content, commercial importance and strong proof.
If not, consolidate it into a stronger service architecture.
4. Preserve project media
Recover the best available originals of installed signs, detail images, vehicle fleets, wayfinding systems, before/after work, facility/team images and night illumination shots.
Do not migrate only tiny thumbnails if originals exist.
5. Preserve project context
For strong projects, retain sign type, business/setting type, broad location, project description, relevant constraints and publication permissions.
Anonymous images lose much of their sales value.
6. Rebuild the quote path
Test service choice, location, size/scope, quantity, timing, artwork status, contact information and the confirmation state.
Do not introduce instant-pricing language unless a real pricing system supports it.
7. Protect local business information
Review address, phone, hours, pickup rules, service/installation area and the website URL used in controlled public business profiles.
8. Map redirects before launch
Prepare an old-to-new URL map. Point important old URLs directly to the closest relevant destination and avoid unnecessary redirect chains.
Google's current site-move guidance recommends checking redirects, monitoring crawl/indexing and using Search Console and sitemaps during migration.
9. Review metadata instead of copying blindly
For important pages, check SEO title, meta description, H1, canonical, slug and internal links.
Migration is a chance to improve weak metadata while preserving useful URLs.
10. Keep production systems outside the website migration
Do not move proof files, artwork masters, production tickets, inventory records, install schedules, permit files or manufacturing data into the public website simply because the web platform changed.
OneStudio belongs here as the website and ordinary client-continuity layer.
11. Test mobile and forms
Check image loading, gallery crop, click-to-call, navigation, quote fields, error handling, confirmation state and service-area information.
12. Monitor after launch
Watch for 404s, redirect errors, old URLs still indexed, quote-form failures, traffic changes and query changes when first-party Search Console access is available.
